LOBBY

museum LOBBY DAY&NIGHT

In the lighting design process, we thought of the needs and general feel for the museum. We would like to create a welcoming and vivid feeling for the first impression. The entire museum design, which utilizes a “white on wood” (bright and natural) scheme, provides a warm color tone. The waffle style decorative ceiling and the wood beams on the back of the reception area are the highlights within the lobby space. Hexagonal pendant light fixtures are suspended from the ceiling with diverse elevation. Little details like the hexagonal pendant fixture help to emphasize our theme of the incorporation of natural shapes into our design. The reception desk area is mainly illuminated by the LED strip lights irregularly placed on the wooden wall.  Along the perimeter of the wall, down-lights are used to provide a non- uniform lighting on the wall which creates a relaxing feel and allows people to enjoy the space.

The picture on the top is illuminate calculation with the wooden louvers and the bottom is without wooden louver. The wooden louver helps to block direct sunlight and glazes and blocked more than 100 foot candles in lobby space.

GALLERY

Gallery design is one of focal point for our building design. To accent the honeycomb floor plan design, we  arranged all the gallery spaces with hexagonal floor plan layouts. We also formed the ceiling with hexagonal shaped constructions and used LED strip lighting along the gallery space’s perimeter. Our clients stressed that daylight infiltration would be harmful when trying to preserve the artwork. However, a space with no windows makes visitors feel pressurized. To combat this, special ceiling lighting was incorporated to make the galleries feel spacious and lively. The illuminated level is around 20 Fc on the exhibits. There is no windows and no direct sunlight in all the gallery space to protect the exhibits.
